Our physical appearance is largely determined by skin quality, especially of the uncovered face. With time and age, our skin’s elasticity decreases, and the gravity effects will stand out. Wrinkles will appear on the aging face, trenches around the eyes, nose and lips, folds become more pronounced, neither the neck or forehead are not spared by the passing time.
The desire to preserve a youthful appearance is as old as mankind itself.
In the above cases, skin rejuvenation with chemical or laser methods are not enough. We can achieve the corresponding effect only with facial plastic surgery. Loose skin and tissue layers are placed in their original places, are fixed, and then the excess skin is removed. The face and neck skin are stretched.
The incision starts in the temple area, extends downward in a natural line in front of the ear, or just inside the cartilage at the front of the ear, and continues behind the earlobe to the lower scalp. After the excision of excess skin the wrinkles will be smoothed.
The interventions can be performed under local or general anesthesia. One day postoperative hospitalization is needed for observation. The wires are removed after 10-14 days, in the meantime, a compression bandage is weared.
Rejuvenation of the Face depends on the quality of the skin and of the connective tissue of the patient, usually it has a rejuvenating effect of 8-10 years,and also will keep as much.
Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery)
Altered eyelid atrophy in old age means atrophy, extent of skin, muscles and connective tissues of the upper and lower eyelids and the appearance of ‘bags’ due to excess of fat. Over time , the skin becomes thin over the eyelids,wrinkles will start going out radially from the outer corner of eye. Wrinkled skin will appear on both of upper and lower eyelids. Wrinkles on eyelids can affect the vision. Above and below the outer corner and inner eyelids may appear swollen eyelids. Eyelid muscles lose elasticity.
Following the mentioned process , the upper eyelids become more hooded and droopy, the lower eyelids often develop ‘bags’. Optical appearance and discoloration of the lower eyelids is increased.
Patients establish surgical indications. It should be mentioned that there is no effect on forehead area wrinkles and other facial areas, after blepharoplasty.
The operation can be performed under local anaesthesia. The intervention consists in : removing the droopy skin, folds of the upper and lower eyelids, also fat which causes the swelling of the eyelids. Both eyelids can be operated, or in the same time with a facelift.
After surgerey thin pieces of steri-strips are placed on the outer corners of the eyes. For one week, is recommended to take vitamin C and K, and ice compression on the eyelid. Activities that will increase the blood pressure must be avoided after surgery.
Stitches are removed after 7 days. The scar should be protected from the sun for 6 months at least.
Blepharoplasty can be linked with chemical or laser removal of pigmented skin spots. In case of excess isolated skin can be obtained excellent results with laser eyelid treatment CO2, which gives excellent results without any incision.
Rhinoplasty
The nose,is the decisive nature of the face, has an important and characteristic role in shaping the face. Deformities of the nose can be inherited or acquired (in accidents). These kind of distortions can be corrected with plastic surgery interventions with good results.
In this case is important a verry detailed consultation of the patient.
Rhinoplasty surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia, but it can be also performed under local anesthesia. The incision is made inside the nose, in the nasal mucosa, without visible scars. There are external incision surgery with no visible scars after it. The intervention is based on remodeling the skeleton and cartilage, as agreed with the patient.
After the operation, nose-tampons are introduced in the nose for 24 hours, and a nasal splint is used to hold the structures in place until healing is underway. The nasal splint is removed after one week, and for 1-2 weeks, the nose can be inflated. For 3-4 weeks Avoid blowing or picking the nose must be avoided.Although the final result will be apparent in about 2 weeks, small changes may continue to occur over the next 6-12 months.
Otoplasty
Long-eared(prominent),asymmetric or big flags are frequent and very disturbing congenital defects.These deformations can be corrected with good results by plastic surgery interventions.
Children can already be operated at the age of 6 years,to prevent bad jokes,but only if the child wants it too.After this age whenever, when the defect becomes disturbing.
The intervention is performed under local anesthesia, free of pain.
The essence of intervention is:the skin and the bay leaf shaped cartilage are removed from the rear side, and in front the prominence of the auricle is formed(antehelix). After the surgery a turban shaped compressive bandage will be worn. Demanding activities should be avoided.
The bandage and stitches are removed after 7-10 days. Another 2-3 weeks is recommended to wear a ski band or full head bandage.
After the intervention there will not be any visible scars, because the incision is made only behind the ear, in the retroauricular groove, and it it heals with a thin scar.
